If mosquitos have ever made camping miserable for you I have finally found solutions that have worked for me and I am excited to share them with you so we can all be happy campers!

I’ve Tried Everything

I love camping in the woods or forest, more remote areas where mosquitoes thrive. Mosquitos love me and they have made me miserable. So, I have been on a mission to find the right products so I can always enjoy my outdoor camping time.

My goal has been to be DEET free and out of desperation, I have tried so many different types of products that others have claimed to be great mosquito repellents…. Everything from wearing patches to DEET free bug and mosquito repellents, essential oils, candles, mosquito sticks, and even a formula that contained garlic and other herbs that you sprinkle on the ground.

None of these did the job!

I am happy to report I have discovered 1-2 products that will keep your campsite mosquito-free, 1 that will allow you to go hiking and exploring without being eaten alive and one that will help relieve the miserable itching when you do get bit. I also am going to show you how I quickly remove mosquitoes and other bugs from my RV once they get inside.

How to Keep Your Campsite Mosquito Free

In my previous video, I unboxed, set up, and tested the Thermacell Mosquito Repellent MR300. This product is really easy to use and for the first time ever I was able to keep mosquitos away from my campsite.

The Thermacell Mosquito Repellent MR300 effectively repels mosquitoes by creating a 15-foot zone of protection. However, I am often at larger campsites that require more coverage so I also purchased another Thermacell product, the Patio Shield Mosquito Repeller. This will provide additional 15-foot zone protection. In the previous video, I also shared how I strategically placed two of the MR300s around my campsite but now if I do need more coverage I can place the Patio Shield on a picnic table. This has worked well for me.

So, you can maintain a mosquito-free campsite with 1 or 2 Thermacell MR300s depending on the size of your campsite or get additional coverage like I did and add the Patio Shield to your campsite mosquito repellent arsenal.

How to Combat Mosquitoes When Hiking and Exploring

My favorite camping thing to do is hiking and explore the area. This usually means I am in the woods or other places mosquitoes love to hang out. I must have great blood because if they are around, they will find me.

And Ranger Ready has saved the day for me!

Picaridin is an insect repellent that can be used directly on skin or clothing. It has broad effectiveness against various insects and ticks and is almost colorless and odorless.

Best of all, according to the Environmental Working Group, Picaridin does not carry the same neurotoxicity concerns as DEET. Overall, EWG’s assessment is that picaridin is a good alternative to DEET with many of the same advantages and without the same disadvantages.

I have been using Ranger Ready for a while now and I am loving the results.

So, now instead of a basket full of different products, I am using just this one and it has allowed me to enjoy doing the things I love without being bitten by pesky mosquitoes.

How to Stop Mosquito Bites from Itching so Badly

And for this, I use Tea Tree Oil.

Tea tree oil is an essential oil that comes from steaming the leaves of the Australian tea tree. When used topically, tea tree oil is believed to be antibacterial and is commonly used to treat acne, athlete’s foot, nail fungus, and insect bites.

Tea Tree Oil does not completely stop the itching but it provides relief and takes the edge off especially when I get bitten on my feet. These bites seem to itch the most and drive me crazy!

How to Quickly Remove Mosquitos from Your RV

A portable battery-operated vacuum is a great RV tool that also ideal to quickly capture misquotes or any bugs that get into your RV. The vacuum suction pulls them right into the vacuum and voila mosquitoes are gone!
