RV Fresh Water Tank Sanitizing Step-by-Step Process

Step #1

If you are hooked up to water turn it off.

Step #2

Turn off your water pump.

Step #3

Empty your fresh water tank using the drain valve.

Step #4

Close your fresh water tank drain valve.

Step #5

Mix your sanitizing solution.

A standard guideline is to use 1/4 cup of bleach for every 15 gallons of water. If you prefer using vinegar use 1/2 cup of vinegar for every 15 gallons of water.

Step #6

Get the sanitizing solution into your fresh water tank.

I use a funnel but some people prefer to put the bleach directly into their water hose.

Step #7

Fill your fresh water tank with clean water.

Step #8

Turn on the water pump then open all taps including the kitchen sink faucets, the bathroom shower, and your outside shower. Let the water run unto your smell bleach then turn off the taps.

Step #9

Turn off the water pump and let the bleach solution sit in the fresh water tank for 4-6 hours.

Step #10

Empty the fresh water tank.

Step #11

Flush the fresh water tank with clean water.

Do this by repeating the same process but without adding the bleach. Repeat this process until you no longer smell bleach.
