Learn how to sanitize RV water tank with these easy steps! Step by step instructions show you how I used both vinegar and bleach as our RV water tank sanitizer to clean our RV (fresh, grey, black) water
tanks.

I was smelling a stale odor in our RV sink which lead me to believe our RV grey water tank needed cleaning. If there was a smell from our RV grey water tank, it was highly likely our fresh water tank and our back water tank needed sanitizing also.

We began with filling our fresh water tank with clean water and letting this drain into the grey and black tanks. I then added vinegar to the grey tank and bleach to the back tank. Once this was done, I then refilled the fresh water tank and added vinegar to it.

Now we were ready to drive to the next RV Park so we could sanitize our RV water tanks. The vinegar and bleach mixed with water could slush around the tanks and clean them as we drove down the road.

We chose a park with water hook ups at our next stop for convenience and to make it easier to flush the tanks and rinse out the bleach and vinegar.

Cleaning your RV water tank should be part of a regular RV maintenance schedule. I plan to sanitize our RV water tanks on a quarterly basis because it is important to me to have clean RV water tanks.

This water tank cleaning process was in my Little Guy Max Trailer, however, the steps would be very similar in any teardop trailer to travel travel. What process have you used for RV water tank cleaning? I’d love to hear about it in the comment section below!
